GUWAHATI: A two-day national summit on environment - the 22nd Annual Greentech Environment Summit-2022 - will be held at Hotel Taj Vivanta here on August 23 and August 24.

The summit is being organized by the New Delhi-based Greentech Foundation, an NGO which has been spearheading the crusade on safer environments for the past 22 years, stated a press release.

Some of the guests who will grace and address the delegates include Rajan Gogoi, former Chief Justice of India and Member of Rajya Sabha; Bimal Bora, Assam's Minister of Industries & Commerce and Public Enterprises; Nandita Gorlosa, Assam's Minister of Power, Cooperation, Mines & Minerals; Jogen Mohan, Assam's Minister of Revenue & Disaster Management; and Chandra Mohan Patowary, Assam's Minister of Environment & Forest.

The 'Forest Man of India', Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, the environmental activist will be a star attraction and will address the delegates and share details about his crusade. His presence at the summit will be an inspiration to delegates as he will share his forest work in Majuli, where he has dedicated himself to planting trees and tending forests on a sandbar near the riverside of the Brahmaputra.

Some of the topics to be deliberated on during the two-day summit include Renewable Energy Initiatives and Achievements; Recycling and Waste Management and Environment Protection and Innovative Practices.

The summit will also focus on a few emerging global trends in sustainability such as sustainability becoming the "new normal", transition to a circular economy, ESG (Environmental, Social Governance) investments taking centre stage, climate positivity, clean air initiatives, affordable renewable energy; regenerative agriculture, electrical vehicle and sustainable mobility, bio-economy, transparency on climate risks by corporates etc. Electric cars will become a mainstream purchase now. Reconnecting with nature will increase and drive a new passion for the environment. These and many issues will come up for discussion during the summit

Environmental excellence awards will be also presented to individuals and organizations for their distinguished services, excellence and impact on society at large.

As many as 250 delegates, including experts on environment, sustainability, professionals, regulatory authorities, specialists, practitioners, consultants, green crusaders and others are expected to arrive in Guwahati from different parts of India to participate in the summit. Top executives and representatives from many big corporate houses, public sector undertakings and companies such as ONGC, Kirloskar, Kone, TNPL, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers etc., will participate in the summit.

According to Kamleshwar Sharan, Chairman and CEO of Greentech Foundation, the summit will have insightful panel discussions and presentations to evolve and adopt outstanding initiatives and practices for inclusive growth of the organization as well as a human being

The year 2022 will be an important year for climate change, as the annual UN climate change conference is expected to be held in Egypt and will global climate talks, mobilize action, and provide a significant opportunity to look at the impacts of climate change across the world.
