Guwahati: Guwahati Police apprehended a school bus driver after he allegedly rammed a car that was parked on the roadside in the Geetanagar area here on Monday.

As per reports, it was also alleged that the driver named Deben Kalita hit the car under the influence of alcohol.

The school bus is said to be from Maria's Public School, Geetanagar rammed into a car (AS 01 FB 6777) as the driver lost control. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident as all the students are safe.

Meanwhile, the Geetanagar police are investigating the matter and reportedly the driver of the bus is in police custody.

Recently, a guideline was issued by the Assam Transport Department stating that if a driver was issued a challan even once for an offence of over-speeding, drunken driving, dangerous driving, etc cannot be employed further.

The initiative was taken in a bid to ensure the safety and security of the school children as per the Supreme Court's (SC) guidelines.

As many as 20 cases of drunken driving were detected in the city on Saturday night as the police renewed its campaign against this offence. According to police sources, each offender was fined Rs 10,000 each as per rules, which will have to be deposited in the court.

In June this year, a woman and her friends who were in an intoxicated state created a high-voltage drama outside Rajdhani Masjid in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati.

As per reports, the woman, who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, allegedly behaved in an inappropriate manner with traffic police and also attacked the on-duty police officials after they were instructed to stop their vehicle following a road accident.

The woman, who was driving her four-wheeler vehicle crashed into another vehicle near Rajdhani Masjid in the Hatigaon area, after which the traffic police constable asked them to stop.
