Guwahati: Floods continue to ravage Guwahati as various parts of the city have been drenched for the second consecutive day on Wednesday due to torrential rain.

Areas like Rukminigaon, Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Hatigaon, Zoo Road etc have been severely affected and are still deluged by floods.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been deployed so, as to carry out relief work in various parts of Guwahati which have been hit hard by waterlogging.

"The NDRF teams have come here as the water level is 10-feet high in some areas. Rescue work is underway," informed Gajendra Singh, Inspector, NDRF.

The Kamrup metropolitan district administration, June 14, announced the closure of all schools and colleges in the district on June 15 as a result of the flood.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kamrup Metropolitan district, Pallav Gopal Jha gave the orders after the meteorological department predicted similar levels of rainfall for the next two days.

As per the orders of the district administration, all schools and colleges, both government-run and private, will have to be closed down.

Meanwhile, a total of five people have been killed so far. Four construction workers were buried alive due to a massive landslide on June 14 at Boragaon in Guwahati and another person died as his house got inundated. 

Incessant rain coupled with thunderstorms have wreaked havoc across Assam and has reduced the daily activities to a standstill.

The people were severely affected as a result of it; some business establishments were forced to shut down, people got stuck in traffic jams for a long time in some areas, and personal properties and infrastructure were severely damaged.
