Guwahati: GMC Orders Mall Owners to Stop Collecting Parking Fees In Name of Valet Parking

GUWAHATI: There have been numerous instances now where complaints are being raised to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) from the citizens regarding the collection of parking fees in the name of valet parking.

Addressing the grievances received, as per a public notification Devasish Sharma, Commissioner, GMC has directed all the concerned mall owners to stop collecting parking fees from their customers in the name of valet parking, with immediate effect.

According to the issuance of a Trade License, Building permissions are granted against shopping malls with sufficient parking facilities which is reserved mandatorily for customers.

The GMC Commissioner further said that GMC officials had also observed during their field visits that the malls and business establishments had been collecting parking fees from consumers as valet parking.

The GMC Commissioner said that the charging of parking fees had created a great deal of public resentment.
