Guwahati: Owing to the incessant rain situation in the city, the Kamrup (metro) district administration has announced the closure of all educational institutes on Wednesday.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Kamrup Metro District Administration said, ''In view of prediction by IMD of incessant rains in Kamrup Metro Dist. tomorrow, it is advised to all educational institutions (Govt.& Pvt. both) to be closed down for tomorrow (15.6.22) with exception of conduct of examinations which have been already scheduled.''

Notably, several parts of the Guwahati witnessed waterlogging due to continuous heavy rainfall which started on Monday night.

Following the havoc created by heavy showers in the city, at least four persons were buried alive on Tuesday in a massive landslide that took place at Nizarapar area near Boragaon area in Guwahati.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), and the police are conducting relentless rescue operations at the site of the incident since the morning of June 14.

Besides Boragaon, vicinities like Bamunimaidam, Basistha, and Nabagraha in Guwahati have experienced landslides. However, there are no reports of casualties or injuries from these areas so far.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that the northeastern region will continue to receive heavy rainfall till June 17 and also issued a red alert for the state of Assam and Meghalaya.
