Guwahati Landlord Murder Case: Police Interrogates Son Of Prime Accused Dharani Deka

Guwahati: The elder son of Dharani Deka, the prime accused in the Japorigog murder case said that he was not aware of the incident.

He said that he was asleep when his father came and woke him up. His father told him that he had murdered the landlord and asked him to leave the house immediately.

Dharani Deka's son appeared in front of the police to record his statement on the matter and the police informed him that he had been summoned again for interrogation on May 23.

According to the son, his father had murdered the landlord, Hemdhar Baruah, for allegedly sexually assaulting his wife.

"Father told me that the landlord had sexually assaulted our mother. My younger brother was at school then. Father asked me to come to Ganeshguri," the son said.

He went on to say that his father had given him Rs 2,000 at Ganeshguri and told him to go to his aunt's home, where he got Rs 500 from his aunt and subsequently went to his uncle's place at Adabari.

He added that he went to their ancestral in Nalbari home from Adabari and he arrived at the Dispur police station after being summoned by the police.

"The landlord had asked us to vacate the home but we never had any quarrels with him," he further said.

Meanwhile, the prime accused Dharani Deka along with his wife Rimi Deka were again taken for a medical check-up, following which they will be produced before the court.

Sudhakar Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East, reacted to the incident by saying that they questioned the elder son of Deka on May 22 and they found that his statement aligned with that of his father.

"He has been again summoned today for questioning. We have not found any evidence against him on allegations that he consumed narcotics. We also have not established whether he borrowed the money," Singh added.
