Guwahati: A young man sustained severe injuries after he came in contact with high-voltage wires while bringing down the national flag before dusk here on Monday.

As per reports, the incident took place at the office of MP Hemanga Thakuria in the Uparhali village near Palasbari, on the outskirts of Guwahati.

The victim was identified as Jitumoni Thakuria and was exposed to a large power line near the flag-raising venue.

On the occasion of 75th Independence Day, MLA Thakuria unfurled the national flag at his office.

Following the incident, the youth was initially shifted to Mirza Medical, however, he was referred to Nemcare hospital in Guwahati for better medical care.

In a similar incident, Independence Day celebrations in Telangana's Sangareddy district turned tragic on Monday as two people died of electrocution, while a third person was injured.

As per police, the incident took place when the person came in contact with a wire while hoisting the national flag at Anand Nagar Colony of Indresham village under Patancharu police station area, causing him to get electrocuted.

Reportedly, local residents had arranged to hoist the flag on Independence Day. However, during this time residents remained unaware of the danger and flag posts were installed near overhead power lines, leading to the accident.

Three people came in contact with that wire while hoisting the tricolor.

Anil Kumar (40) and Tirupathi (42) died on the spot, while Dhanunjay (38) is injured and has been admitted to the hospital.

In this regard, police have registered a case and started an investigation.

In Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal too a 33-year-old man was electrocuted to death while he was trying to fix a steel rod to hoist the flag on the occasion of Independence Day on the terrace of his newly opened hospital in Ayodhya Nagar locality.

The deceased has been identified as Anshil John.

He had started a new hospital at New Sharda Nagar in Ayodhya Nagar in March this year in partnership with Ram Prajapati.

He along with his wife Deepali Sharma and 4-year-old son was staying in the rooms built on the terrace on the second floor of the newly constructed hospital, said Investigation officer HC Jagdish Tiwari.
