Guwahati: Man sets fire to bikes in Fancy Bazar, incident caught on camera

Guwahati: A massive blaze reportedly broke out at the Fancy Bazar area of Guwahati in the wee hours of Tuesday (September 8).

As per reports, the fire broke out in the parking area of the JBs restaurant located at MG Road in Fancy Bazar. 

It is pertinent to mention here that the fire completely gutted four two-wheelers that were parked right n front of the restaurant.

According to reports, the fire caused a property loss to the tune of around Rs 10,00,000.

"A big tragedy was averted, but all the bikes got burnt. The transformer is gone, but thankfully, it did not burst and the fire did not spread. We have given the CCTV footage to the police, and they are investigating the matter. Do not know why anyone would come and light the fire," Gopal Jalan, Owner of JB's Restaurant told The Sentinel Digital.

Although preliminary reports suggest a short circuit, CCTV footage captured on the night shows a hooded individual walking up to the bikes and casually starting a blaze. Thereafter, he places a shawl that he had wrapped over his head on the bikes, which are ablaze at this point. The individual then proceeds to walk away from the spot.

The individual who caused the fire is yet to be identified and his motives are as of yet unclear.

As soon as news of the fire broke, the fire fighting vehicles were pressed to douse the fire, which was quickly brought to control.

No casualties have been reported so far.
