GUWAHATI: A joint drive was carried out on Thursday by the Health and Enforcement branches of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in association with the District Tobacco Control Cell, Kamrup (Metro) and Assam Police against selling of tobacco products near educational institutions in certain areas of the city.
Thursday's campaign was carried out near the Gopal Bodo High School, Dispur College, Ganeshguri, Hengrabari LP School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara and Srimanta Shankar Academy, Dispur
During the drive, all tobacco products from the shops operating within 100 yards of these educational institutions were seized.
Moreover, the Health Branch of GMC conducted another inspection drive at the Chandmari Commerce Point where approximately 15 shops/business establishments were inspected. Out of these, eight were found to be operating in violations of GMC rules and regulations. The business establishments where irregularities were found included Zip and Go, Commerce Point, Sikha Fast Food, D Corner, Café D Lili, Sinful Act Trending, Sinful Act Tattoo and J-14 Restaurant.
