GUWAHATI: For cleaning of the sewage system in order to make the city flood-free, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) along with GMD, Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Resource Department have aligned for a Rs 35-crore project.

The GMC has started eviction of some houses and other establishments on the rivers Bharalu and Bahini. GMC had been de-silting both the rivers where rampant encroachments have taken place. All these works are expected to be completed before the monsoon season. GMC ward councillors are allegedly yet to receive funds for their respective works. Supersuckers which have been engaged for cleaning of the drainage system have not been paid for.
