GUWAHATI: To ensure transparent and fair conduct of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections, the Kamrup Metro District Administration has launched a web portal- 'kamrupmetro-pg.assam.gov.in'.

In a press meet, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election) Dr. Dhrubajyoti Hazarika officially launched the web portal in the conference room of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Guwahati.

Further, the Kamrup Administration stated that citizens can register by logging in to the web portal and will be able to lodge their complaints and other issues, including violations of election rules etc in online mode.

The complainant will also be able to know the status of their grievance registered in the GMC Election Grievance Management System.

The complainant may also attach a picture by mentioning the place etc. in their complaints.

Earlier, the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has requested the State Election Commissioner (SEC) to postpone the forthcoming Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election and conduct it on any date after April 21.

A delegation of the BJP, led by State unit general secretaries Diplu Ranjan Sarma and Pulok Gohairi, met SEC Alok Kumar on Thursday and submitted a memorandum in this connection.

Notably, this time half of the wards under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, that is 30 out of 60 wards, have been reserved for women in the ensuing election to the biggest civic body of the State.

Earlier, Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha informed the media that of these 30 seats, two will be further reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates and two others for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.

The last date of filing of nomination papers will be March 30 (11 am to 3 pm). The last date of scrutiny of nomination papers will be April 1, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be April 4 (before 3 pm).

A total of 7,96,829 voters will exercise their franchise on EVM machines in 789 polling centres on April 19.
