Guwahati: Non-Payment of Rents Leads To Seizure of 8 Shops At Fancy Bazar

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation's (GMC) Enforcement branch on Wednesday sealed eight shops at Fancy Bazar area of Guwahati for non-payment of room rent.

The drive was conducted in collaboration with Market Branch of GMC along with police personnel at 10 AM.

These sealed shops were operating in GMC market complex, Fancy Bazar.

''Sealing of the shops were done due to non-payment of room rent to GMC for a long period of time,'' an official statement from the body said.

The municipal body is also actively taking action against those shops, which are violating its rules and regulations. In one of these actions, GMC recently sealed a sweet factory at Machkhowa near AT Road Flyover.

The sweet factory was identified as Ganesh Rai Sweets.

Apart from these, the GMC's Health, Enforcement and Hoarding Branches also conducted a separate drives around A.T. Road and Chandmari areas of Guwahati.

In addition to this, one unauthorized rooftop hoarding located near Chandmari flyover was evicted and completed by 60% and a total of 230kg of iron scrap was collected.

The GMC had also collected an amount of Rs. 1,95,000/ was collected as penalty in the process.
