GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police have arrested two more people from outside the state in relation to the cybercrime syndicate active in the city. The police arrested them after two days of questioning the duo.

Chandmari Police arrested Prabhadweep Singh from Punjab and Garbhit Jain from Delhi in relation to the recent crackdown against cybercrime cells active in the city. They had come to the city to inquire about the well-being of Rajen Sidana and Mahendra Chanda, two of the accused in the same case. Rajen Sidana and Mahendra Chanda were also arrested in the past because of their connection with the mysterious death of a girl from Meghalaya.

Rajen Sidana was arrested earlier by the police during the recent crackdown on cybercriminals. He and Mahendra Chanda are suspects for allegedly operating illicit call centres within the city and carrying out fraudulent activities that resulted in financial losses worth lakhs of rupees for unsuspecting victims. Their arrest was made possible through the concerted efforts of the Chandmari Police Station, acting on specific intelligence.

The modus operandi of the illegal call centres depended on deceit and impersonation, as the perpetrators posed as government or bank officials to manipulate individuals. As a result of the operation, a vehicle used by the suspects has also been seized as potential evidence. This latest incident is closely linked to an illegal call centre that was recently exposed in the Subansiri Apartment located in Bamunimaidam locality. In response, law enforcement agencies have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter and are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend any additional suspects believed to be connected to this cybercrime racket.
