GUWAHATI: Amidst the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19, the city police personnel distributed food to the needy in different parts of the city, on Friday.

The police personnel distributed khichdi to the homeless who live on the footpaths in Bhootnath and the areas near by the Sukreswar Temple.

Though the Kamrup District Administration shifted many of the homeless to night shelter home under Social Welfare Department, many of the homeless and beggars are still living on the footpaths. Hence amidst the lockdown, these people are struggling to fill their stomachs. “The Fancy Bazaar Gurudwara has prepared food for them as they are striving for meals. We are helping them so that these people can have food on time.” said one police personnel while distributing food near the Sukreswar Temple.

He said that these homeless people are being provided food three times in a day with the help of Fancy Bazaar Gurudwara. “There are many people like them who are lying on the streets with a hungry stomach. We are distributing food to them. On every single day we are trying to feed as much people as we can. There are more than 1000-1200 people.” He said.
