Guwahati Police File Charge Sheet in Model Rajkanya Baruah Accident Case

GUWAHATI: A charge sheet in the Rajkanya Baruah accident case was forwarded to the court on Friday, marking a significant move in the case.

Baruah, hit 9 PWD labors and injured them severely on 1st October night. She was driving home from an event in Vivanta by Taj. According to reports she was intoxicated and was driving quite recklessly when she hit those 9 laborers. 

Her accident came into light after widespread disagreement emerged as she was given bail right after the incident happened. Netizens were upset with the fact that after one of the laborers lost his leg in the incident how was she set free from custody. Rajkanya was arrested on October 7, five days after the accident.

After the incident, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration issued a show-cause notice to Taj Vivanta to submit CCTV camera footage and the guest list of the event held on October 1. The hotel management was asked to specify the timings of the event and details about the guests and organizers. It has been alleged that the event continued till late at night, violating COVID protocol and curfew timings. 

The case recieved several criticism when Baruah tried to frame her illness with Dr. Navanil Baruah. It came to light that Rajkanya had sent WhatsApp messages to Dr Baruah threatening to commit suicide if she was not admitted in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of that hospital. Dr Baruah also had telephonic talks with the State DGP (Director General of Police) regarding this case before admitting her in ICU.
