Guwahati: The police detained a suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) member from a city guest house on Friday. Police said that they held the accused identified as Enamul Haque for a suspected link to the JMB. The crime branch is questioning him.

Sources added that Haque was working as a senior staff of the guest house in the Dispur area for several years.

Police said, "These modules work very slowly. They first try to reach out to people like social workers and religious preachers and then indoctrinate them into the Jihadi ideology. However, in Assam, they could not succeed much as the society, in general, is not accepting it and alerting police about such activities."

Earlier, the police arrested at least 16 members of Ansar al Islam, the Bangladesh chapter of Al Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) in the last two months for allegedly carrying out jihadi activities in Assam.
