GUWAHATI: Journalist Susmita Goswami won the closely fought election for president of the Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on June 3. A total of 422 votes were cast in favour of Goswami, while With 466 votes, Sanjoy Ray won the election for general secretary with a decisive victory.

Additionally, Jatin Bhagawati, who received 458 votes to become the Vice President, is a member of the newly chosen GPC executive body. Aloka Boruah also won the vice president spot (reserved for women) with an astounding 427 vote total.

4. General Secretary: Sanjoy Ray

6. Assistant General Secretary (Reserved): Mitali Konwar

7. Organizing Secretary: Kishore Jyoti Sarma

8. Treasurer: Manindra Deka

9. Cultural Secretary: Pallabi Bora

10. Sports Secretary: Azad Gogoi

At least 90% of eligible voters turned up for the GPC elections, which began on Saturday. Out of the 998 club members who were registered, 906 members actually cast ballots. Up to 25 individuals, including six women, competed for ten positions.

According to reports, as the the Guwahati Press Club (GPC) held elections for members of its executive body. The election witnessed a very excellent turnout despite the extremely hot temperatures. Ten positions in the Guwahati Press Club were up for election, and a total of 25 people ran.

In 2020, The Guwahati Press Club (GPC), which was founded nearly 50 years ago, found its permanent address. The GPC has been granted two bighas of land in Rupnagar by the State Cabinet for use as permanent facilities.

In addition to praising the State Government for allocating the parcel of land, then GPC's general secretary Sanjoy Ray stated it is a dream come true for every journalist working in Assam. According to Ray, the GPC might have a general body meeting in either January or February 2021 to develop a detailed proposal for establishing a permanent Press Club complex on the government-allocated site.
