Guwahati Railway Station Gets Two More Escalators

GUWAHATI: Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Panel Chairman of Lok Sabha Ramen Deka inaugurated 2 escalators and 1 lift at Guwahati railway station on Friday. There are two escalators and one lift already operating in Guwahati station. The MP also laid foundation stone for six more Escalators at Guwahati railway station which will be operational within next year. In a parallel function, Sibu Mishra, MLA also laid foundation stone for two escalators at Lumding railway station.

Lifts and Escalators at railway stations have become necessity in view of the difficulties faced by passengers in movements across foot over bridges to various platforms at large stations. Indian Railway has decided to provide more and more lifts and escalators to make it easier for passengers to board trains effortlessly and on time. NF Railway is in the process of installing 29 more Escalators within 2020. This would be in addition to the six already operating (including the two inaugurated today). While 16 of them will be installed this year alone, the rest will be installed next year.

Rangiya, New Tinsukia, Kamakhya and Lumding stations will get two escalators each this year. Six more escalators will be installed in Guwahati, two in Lumding, one in Dimapur and two in Agartala within next year.

Similarly, 36 more lifts will be installed in various stations of N. F. Railway within next year in addition to the seven already operating. While the first lift was installed in New Tinsukia station in September last year; Guwahati, New Coochbehar and Katihar stations have one lift each and New Jalpaiguri has two lifts. Twelve lifts, including one each in Tinsukia, Kamakhya and two each in Guwahati, Lumding and Dibrugarh, will be installed within this year. Rest 24 will be installed within next year.
