Guwahati: RMC Predicts Heavy Rainfall, Asks Citizens To Avoid Landslide Prone Areas

Guwahati: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted intense rainfall like 2-3 cm in one hour over Guwahati city on 16th and 17th May 2022.

''Few spells of rain/thundershowers with one or two spells of intense rainfall (2-3 cm in 1 hour) is very likely over Guwahati City,'' it said.

RMC further said that the visibility may become poor during the intense spell of rainfall while waterlogging in many parts of low-lying areas is expected.

''Inundation of roads/streets disruption of traffic due to waterlogging inroads may cause localized and short term disruption to municipal services (water, electricity, etc.),'' it added.

It is further said that present weather conditions may trigger land slide/land slip on the hills.

The regional Meteorological body also asked to follow traffic advisories and avoid going to areas that face waterlogging problems often.

''Avoid staying in landslide-prone areas,'' it added.

Meanwhile, under the twin attack of floods and landslides, the Dima Hasao district is siffering the worst.

The New Haflong Railway Station looks desolate and muddy and the hill district remained cut off by roads, rails, and the internet. Power connections also remained cut in many areas in the district.

The river has been in full spate for the past few days and in Gohpur, the Chatrang River is in full to the bream. The other rivers in full spate are the Nuna in Kalaigaon and the Mora Pagladia in Tihu.

Tamulpur is also under flood fury and already two people died in Cachar due to floods.
