Guwahati Silpi Samaj protests CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act)

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Silpi Samaj has expressed its resentment against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) through music and poetry at Latasil playground on Sunday, and said in unison that the artistes fraternity will never accept the Act.

Hundreds of eminent personalities representing the artistes society participated in the protest called by Surtirtha, Yuvatirtha, Swaranjali, Surbaahini, Jayanta Hazarika Memorial Committee and a few other organizations.

The noted singers and artistes who took part in the cultural protest include Malabika Bora, Manisha Hazarika, Eli Ahmed, Nilima Khatun, Kula Baruah, Kirtikamal Bhuyan, JP Das and many others.

The artiste fraternity expressed its resentment by singing the legendary songs of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Bishnuprasad Rabha, Ambikagiri Raychoudhury, Bhupen Hazarika and Nirmalprabha Bordoloi such as – Jui Loi Nekhelibi Rongaa Soku Dekhuwai and Bhoi Nai etc.

Extending his support to the protest by the Silpi Samaj, AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) chief adviser Samujjal Bhatacharya said, “We congratulate the artistes for this initiative. We’ll need the advice of senior artistes in days ahead to carry on the anti-CAA protest. Till the CAA is scrapped we need to carry our peaceful, democratic and disciplined protest.”
