Guwahati: Students Of Handique College Demand Ousting Of Professor Accused Of Sexual Harassment

Guwahati: Students of Handique College, a prominent girls' college in Guwahati, Assam, organized a protest inside the college premises on April 25. The protestors fiercely demanded the ousting of an assistant professor who was reinstated in the college.

According to the Handique College students union, the assistant professor identified as Manas Gogoi was accused of sexual harassment. The professor was earlier suspended from his job after several girl students accused him of sexual harassment.

The students were furious as soon as they came to know that the professor will be restored again in that position. The agitated students appealed to the college authority to review their decision and they demanded his permanent dismissal.

The students alleged that Professor Manas Gogoi was sending vulgar messages to girl students after which around four students complained to the authority.

Earlier, the principal of ADP College in Nagaon was suspended by the DHE (Directorate of Higher Education) of Assam after receiving complaints from two assistant professors of the college.

The principal had been identified as Dr Surajit Kumar Bhagowati and he was accused of sexually harassing two lady professors of ADP College Nagaon.

The complaint petition was filed by Monika Biswas, the assistant professor at the Department of B.Voc and Dr. Mousumi Saikia, Assistant professor at the Department of Herbal Science & Technology in ADP College.

Meanwhile, disciplinary action had been initiated against the accused principal as per the order notice issued by the director of higher education, Assam.
