GUWAHATI : In a sensational episode today, a 7-year old street boy was found manning traffic at a busy intersection near Commerce College in Guwahati. He was seen managing the traffic alone in a Wednesday afternoon.
The video of the boy went viral in social platforms, prompting Chandmari traffic police to immediately assign traffic personnel in the spot. On Wednesday, 16th of November 2022, a kid named Aftul Ali from the Bhangagarh area of the city, was spotted at the Commerce College point locality when he was trying to manage the traffic rush of the area in the absence of a traffic personnel.
The people were stunned by the action of the little boy. As per sources, some of the pedestrians appreciated his efforts while the few others remonstrated him for the act, as he might face some accident. Aftul Ali continued with his work despite the scoldings.
Few media persons arrived at the spot, and asked the pedestrians about the ongoing incident. "We must recognise his effort but instead of him, a traffic personnel should be doing his duty" stated a pedestrian. Another pedestrian came and mentioned about the absence of a proper traffic signal. He further says that, if there is no police personnel available for the area then at least the traffic signal should be installed as soon as possible.
According to sources, a traffic police officer said that, due to shortage in manpower, there is absence of traffic police in the Commerce colony. When asked, The on-duty policeman stated that, there are less traffic police personnel in the Chandmari police station, giving rise to this issue. A number of four police personnel from the Chandmari branch has been appointed in a government programme in Khanapara on Wednesday. The Chandmari branch needs more manpower to resolve the issue, the on duty police official added.
