Guwahati: Woman Strangled To Death By Her Lover

Guwahati: In an unfortunate incident, a young woman was allegedly strangled to death by her lover in North Guwahati here on Monday.

As per reports, the woman, identified as Asmina Khatun, was found inside a locked room.

She was a resident of Juria in the Nagaon district and was residing as a tenant in North Guwahati. She earned her bread and butter by working in a sweet factory.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased accused her lover of strangling her to death before fleeing the scene.

Upon receiving the information of the same, the city police reached the crime scene and after taking the body under its custody, they sent it for post-mortem.

Presently, the police have detained some persons for questioning in connection with the case and an investigation into the case is underway.

In January this year, in a similar incident, a woman identified as Dilowar Begum was strangled to death in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati.

As per the initial reports, it came to the fore that she was reportedly troubled by her in-laws for dowry for a long time.

However, the police too had suspected that her in-laws could be behind this murder and they also cited that dowry as the reason for the murder.

Later, the police apprehended all the family members of the in-laws in connection with the case.

Notably, then the Hatigaon area had witnessed at least two similar incidents in the past two months. In one of these incidents, a murder was reported in the Hatigaon in December last year where a man had been found hanging from the ceiling fan at his residence in Guwahati on the morning of 12 December.

As soon as the police came to know about the same, they immediately rushed to the site of the incident and sent the dead body for a post-mortem report.

The man was identified as Rupjyoti Deka, a 24-year-old youth who was from Batadrava in the Nagaon district. He was working as a driver for one Guljar Hussain who happens to be a member of the minority cell of the Assam BJP.
