Guwahati: A woman was seriously injured after an attack was carried out on her in the city's Garigaon area on Thursday.

Reportedly, an enraged youth attacked the woman with a sharp weapon and injured her severely.

The attacker has been identified as Suraj Ali and he attacked the woman with a machete when she tried to stop him from creating a ruckus.

Following the attack, the injured woman was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

The has received injuries to her neck, ears, and face.

Meanwhile, the accused has been taken under custody and charged with an attempt to murder.

Recently, a month back, a woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws for giving birth to a girl child in the Bhairabnagar area in Assam's Karimganj district.

As per reports, the woman identified as Sumna Begum allegedly died after being forced to consume acid by her husband and in-laws.

According to locals, the woman was subjected to the crime by her husband and her in-laws for failing to give birth to a boy.

Following the incident, the accused husband, identified as Shakeel Ahmed, was taken into police custody.

The victim woman was taken immediately to a nearby hospital, however, she succumbed during treatment.

On August 3, 2022, in a similar incident, a group of boys brutally stabbed a youth with a knife in broad daylight in the city's Silpukhri here on Wednesday.

As per reports, the victim named Deepak Rai, a resident of Lokhra was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

However, the reason behind the attack has not been ascertained by the police.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprit in connection to the case.
