Haj 2018 Smoothly Conducted

GUWAHATI, Sept 13: Chairman of Joint State Haj Committee, Assam, Meghalaya etc Hammim Kutub Javed Ahmed has stated that Haj 2018 conducted by the committee passed off smoothly without any hassle. Addressing a press meet at Dispur in Guwahati today, the chairman said that this year 3342 pilgrims performed Haj from the region after leaving for the holy cities of Mecca and Medina from two embarkation points – Guwahati and Kolkata – on July 14. He also informed that the return journey began from August 27. He further informed that during the Haj in Saudi Arabia, 4 pilgrims from Assam died and were buried in that country as per Saudi law. The deceased were Kabed Ali (67) of Garigaon, Kamrup (M) district and Khalil Uddin Barbhuyan (60), Jamal Uddin Choudhury (61) and Majorak Ali Barbhuyan (58) – all from Hailakandi district. Ahmed further told the media persons that from next year the committee would endeavour to conduct all Haj activities from Haj Bhawan being constructed at Jalukbari in the city.
