GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has dared the BJP-led government at Dispur to hand over the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) and the recent hooch tragedy in Golaghat and Jorhat districts to the CBI, if it has guts.
Addressing the media at Dispur on Wednesday, Gogoi said: “Corruption should be rooted out in the State. If need be, let the government probe APSC appointments from my regime to the 2017 batch. It is doing rounds in the State that the prime accused in the APSC scam, Rakesh Paul’s brother, is still at large. Let the government hand over the APSC scam and the hooch tragedy to the CBI, if it has guts.”
Gogoi said that corruption is on the rise in the State. “Syndicates are very much thriving. The BJP is the richest party in the State now,” he said. On the AIUDF, Gogoi said: “There has been a tacit understanding between Himnata Biswa Sarma and Badruddin Ajmal. If Himanta Biswa Sarma is power hungry, Ajmal is cash starved. Ajmal will field candidates for the Lok Sabha poll at the diktat of Himanta Biswa Sarma.”
On the AGP, Gogoi said: “There’s no use of talking with the party. Our door was open for them. I know they won’t come to us. It’s lust for power that prevents them from leaving the BJP. Now Atul Bora and Keshanb Mahanta are bargaining with the BJP. We’re hopeful of winning ten of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the State.”
Gogoi said: “The BJP is out to win the Lok Sabha poll with the Pulwama attack. However, they won’t succeed. The BJP cheated the six ethnic communities of the State on according them ST status.”
