GUWAHATI: The messy COVID-19 tests at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport here have lead to much harassment of air passengers what with the passengers being kept there for hours together. COVID testing at the airport doesn't go systematically as it was seen on Monday morning. According to air passengers from Kolkata, they were kept at the premises for hours on end for the COVID tests. Moreover, the premises lacked adequate number of chairs for the passengers waiting for the COVID tests. To cap it all, the room did not have any fan for these passengers. The process of COVID testing is very slow. Most of the people engaged for the purpose are seen loitering here and there, said some air passengers.

The process is rather time consuming. First, the air passengers have to fill up some forms and also deposit cash for these tests. Then, they have to register their names with addresses at the specified counter. After that, they go for tests when called. After the test is done, the result is given within a few hours. The results given on money receipts have only stamps on them, without signature of the authority concerned. Moreover, the behaviour of those at the counter is not up to the mark.

Had there been a system, the air passengers wouldn't face such an ordeal. Such a large number of people staying in a closed room for such a long time will only help COVID-19 virus to spread, apprehended a section of the air passengers.
