Himanta Biswa Sarma Launched Housing & Education Loan Schemes

GUWAHATI: Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the implementation of two schemes, ‘Aponar Apon Ghar’ and ‘Abhinandan’ in fulfillment of the Budget Speech 2019-20 commitments on Tuesday.

As per the ‘Aponar Apon Ghar’ scheme, financial relief of up to Rs 2,50,000 will be provided to those permanent residents of Assam availing housing loans for construction of houses in the State of Assam from scheduled commercial banks, regional banks, Assam Cooperative Apex Bank, notified and recognized by Reserve Bank of India.

Any individual who has applied for housing loan of up to Rs 40 lakh, on or after April 4, 2019 shall be eligible to avail the benefits of the ‘Aponar Apon Ghar’ scheme. The applicants must also be permanent residents of Assam and the annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 20,00,000. However, any account which has been classified as non-performing asset by the banks under RBI norms will not be eligible for the benefit under the scheme.

As per the ‘Abhinandan’ scheme, Government of Assam will deposit Rs 50,000 in all existing education loan accounts sanctioned up to March 31, 2019, as a one-time support to the students and parents. The scheme will cover all students who are permanent residents of Assam and have availed loans from scheduled commercial banks, regional banks, Assam Cooperative Apex Bank, notified and recognized by Reserve Bank of India.

The minimum education loan sanctioned to avail the benefits under the ‘Abhinandan’ scheme shall be Rs 1 lakh. However, any account which has been classified as non-performing asset by the banks under RBI norms will not be eligible for the benefit under the scheme.
