Himanta Biswa Sarma Points Accusing Finger At ULFA (I)

GUWAHATI: State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has pointed his accusing finger at the ULFA-I (United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent) for the current protests in some areas in Upper Assam against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

Talking to the media outside the State Assembly on Friday, Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “Who telephones and calls the people of Upper Assam to come out of their houses to take out protest rallies? Such telephones for taking out protest rallies come from abroad. We, as the government, also get such information. The ULFA has a direct role somewhere in the current agitation against the Citizenship Bill.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma even said: “We know the journalists and some organizations who talk to the ULFA over the telephone. Of course, there’re some genuine protests in Upper Assam. That’s because the people there being ignorant of the aggression in lower Assam. They’re ignorant of the terrible aggression in Barpeta and Dhubri.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that there is no genuine protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in central and lower Assam.
