Hindu Yuva-Chatra Parishad; Asom (HYCPA) Burns Effigy of NRC

GUWAHATI: The final draft of the NRC was released on Saturday and as anticipated, various organizations have immediately resorted to remonstration in view of their displeasure with the NRC process. The Hindu Yuva-Chatra Parishad; Asom (HYCPA) burnt an effigy of the final NRC at Ambari on Saturday.

Central president of the parishad Balen Baishya said, “This NRC is unacceptable for the people of Assam. Taking 1971 as its cutoff year will only ensure the safety of the foreigners and outsiders and will be considered a black day.”

The sangha alleged that lakhs of Bangladeshi Muslims’ names were included in the final draft whereas lakhs of Hindu names were left out, which in view of HYCPA, is a pre-formulated strategy.

While 1971 was taken as the cutoff year instead of 1951 on the basis of which the whole procedure of NRC has been completed in Assam, the sangha challenged the central government to announce 1971 as the cutoff year for the whole of India.
