Hooliganism in the name of protest will not be tolerated in State: Bharatiya Janata Party

Guwahati: Following the brutal physical assault upon Tinsukia Unit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Lakheswar Moran on January 30, 2019, BJP staged a massive protest across all the districts in the state on February 1 in reaction to the Tinsukia clash.

In Guwahati, protesters launched a protest rally upto Kamrup District Deputy Commissioner’s office to protest and condemned the alleged atrocities upon the BJP workers in Assam.

The BJP district units also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal through the respective District’s Deputy Commissioners.

In the memorandum, the BJP party had appealed for immediate action against the culprits who were involved in assaulting the Tinsukia BJP President Lakheswar Moran on Wednesday last.

They further appealed to the various organizations to stop Hooliganism in the name of protest in the state.

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital, BJP Vice President, Pradip Thakuria said, “We condemned the brutal act upon our leader in Tinsukia. We won’t accept such kind of atrocities upon any BJP party leaders or workers. Any kind of Hooliganism in the name of protest in the state against ruling BJP Government and Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 will not be tolerated anymore.”

Through the memorandum, BJP had further appealed to strengthen the police administration in the state in order to control law and order situation.

It may be mentioned that several BJP party workers from Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, Sivasagar today made out to the streets to protest and condemned the attack on the BJP leader.

Earlier, the district president of Bharatiya BJP, Lakheswar Moran sustained serious injuries after an RSS meet in Tinsukia which turned violent.

RSS on Wednesday organized a meeting at Gopal Chandra Rabi Chandra Natya Mandir near Tinikunia Pukhuri in Tinsukia district when the local leaders of the students’ body AASU and other protesters disrupted the meeting.

Later, Police personnel resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesters and rescue Lakheswar Moran from the spot.
