STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: There seems to be no end to the hooliganism in the streets of Guwahati of late, and in a recent incident, one Dipankar Dutta had to pay dearly after an encounter with some thugs. After returning from Dimapur on an official tour, Dutta alighted at Guwahati Railway Station at 4 am on Saturday. As he made his way to his rented room in Lachit Nagar in a rickshaw, 4 miscreants in Scooty, armed with guns and iron rods attacked him. After knocking Dutta unconscious, they stole his mobile, gold chain and everything else in his possession. The thugs were discovered by patrolling police but managed to escape. Dutta has been shifted to Kolkatta for treatment of multiple head injuries and is fighting for his life. A case (266/19 u/s 392) has been lodged at Paltan Bazar police station.
