Huge Quantity of Codeine based Cough Syrup and Tablets seized by CID in Hojai

Guwahati: Acting on a secret operation, a CID team on May 18, seized a huge quantity of codeine-based cough syrup and tablets which was dispatched from a proprietor of Aditya Nandan Drugs Distributor, Bhetapara, Guwahati, to Taher Uddin Mazumdar (32), proprietor of M/S Mazumdar Drugs Distributor in Doboka under Hojai District.

As per CID report, the CID team when reached M/S Mazumdar Drugs Distributor in Doboka and asked Taher Mazumdar to show the medicines which were allegedly stored in his storeroom, after introducing the proprietor the identities of the CID personnel, Mazumdar got unconscious and fell down. Later, he was shifted to Doboka Public Health Centre for treatment. The CID team, however, conducted the search operation and recovered codeine-based cough syrup and drugs tablets worth Rs 19,39,047.

It is to be noted that these drugs were sent from Guwahati by proprietor namely Rajen for Aditya Nandan Drugs Distributor. He sold this huge quantity of codeine-based cough syrup and tablets for his illegal profit.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against Taher Uddin Mazumdar for case vide no 11/2019 under section 21(C)/22(C)/29 NDPS Act.
