ICBI Organized Seminar On GST Enlightens Public

GUWAHATI: A seminar on GST, titled ‘GST – Way Forward’ was held on January 30, 2019. The seminar was organized by Guwahati Chapter of International Chamber of Business and Industry (ICBI) in joint association with Marwari Sammelan, Kamrup Sakha.

The chief guest at the event was SK Rahman, Additional Director General, Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax, New Delhi. Besides him, other distinguished guests were Anurag Goel, Commissioner, State Taxes, Assam as a special guest; Biman Chandra Patra and Santanu Sengupta, Assistant Directors, Directorate of GST, Eastern Zone Unit, Kolkata.

The main speaker was Shailesh Sheth, an eminent Advocate from Mumbai who has delivered talk shows on GST across India under various platforms. He enlightened the audience about “Significant Judicial Pronouncements” and “Trends in Advance Rulings” under Goods and Services Tax, which was highly appreciated by all present including officials from Government department.

The programme was inaugurated by the lightening of lamp, done by all the distinguished guests present. The guests were welcomed and felicitated with mementos and shawls. CA Omprakash Agarwal formally began the technical session with his opening address on GST. Later, Rahman, Chief Guest, through his presentation covered the significant reforms and amendments in GST, over a period of last 19 months. The special guest, Anurag Goel emphasized on the fact that the state government is totally with the businessman and ready for all type of dialogues to overcome any difficulty in compliance of GST. The main speaker Sheth, in his address of three hours speech highlighted the flaws in GST laws which could lead to litigation and also all the various significant judgment and cases pending before different courts. During live interaction session, the attendees from trade and industry and also from professional bodies raised their concerns and issues in Goods and Services Tax which was addressed by Rahman, ADG, Goods and Services Tax, New Delhi. He also invited Advocate Sheth to Delhi for a meeting which was heartily accepted by the speaker. Such meeting and discussion could have a far reaching effect in the future. The conveners of the meeting were Vinod Kumar Lohia and Chetan Saraf.
