Guwahati: Director of Bhubaneswar-based Institute of Life sciences (ILS), Dr. Ajay Parida passed away at the age of 58, here on Tuesday.

As per reports, Parida was on a visit to Guwahati to attend a conference where he died suffering from a cardiac arrest in his sleep.

Following this, he was immediately rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, doctors declared him brought dead.

A native of Bhagabanpur village in Jajpur district, Parida was appointed as President of the Agriculture Science and Forestry section of the Indian Science in 2012 and President of the Biological Sciences Session of the National Academy of Sciences India in 2014.

He also served as the Executive Director of the M.S Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai from 2009 to 2017.

In addition to this, Dr. Parida was conferred with Padma Shri for his contribution to the field of Science and Technology in 2014.

Notably, Dr. Parida was known for his contributions to the fields of agriculture, plant molecular biology, and biotechnology.
