IMD's Guwahati Summer Forecast Report: With the start of the month of March, people in Assam including Guwahati have witnessed a sudden spike in mercury level.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department report, it predicted that the day temperature is likely to be above normal in north, northeast, parts of east and west India, in its summer weather forecast report for March to May.

The meteorologists also said that this year there is a high chance that people will witness scorching heat as there will be above normal temperature this year.

The Meteorological Department did a comparative study of temperature data from the year 1901-2021. In the report, it was mentioned that this year in January, the average temperature was recorded at 14.78 degrees celsius, which was the warmest in 62 years since 1958.

It is to be mentioned that since February 2021, the State's capital city, Guwahati has experienced a sudden rise in both day and night temperatures.

Till the first week of February, the maximum temperature in the city was fluctuating in between 22 degree Celsius and 24 degree Celsius.

The temperature suddenly shot up and causing the atmosphere to warmer. On Sunday the guwahati city recorded a maximum temperature of 29 degree Celsius and a minimum of 14.8 degree Celsius.

"The cold wind is missing now. The sky is clear with strong sunshine. The weather has also become hotter due to long dry spell," an official at the Regional Meteorological Centre at Borjhar said. "Light rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh and the weather is most likely to remain dry over, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at isolated pockets over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura," he said.

Meanwhile, in a tweet, the India Meteorological Department wrote, "Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh and isolated rainfall over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura with thunderstorm/lightning during next 2-3 days and thundersquall over Assam & Meghalaya on 04th March 2021."
