GUWAHATI: The Legal Services Authorities across the country, under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) organized the second National Lok Adalat recently in both virtual and hybrid mode.

In Assam also, as directed by NALSA, Assam State Legal Service Authority (ASLA) organized the National Adalat. The Lok Adalat was organized in both virtual and hybrid mode and was held in 33 DSLAs across the State and High Court Legal Service Committee.

It was for the first time, that the Legal Services Authorities of Assam were holding Lok Adalat by virtual/hybrid mode. Parties and Advocates got connected with the Courts via e-apps and remote points. Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Executive Chairman of ASLSA interacted with presiding officers of Lok Adalat benches of the District Courts and oversaw the working and functioning of such benches. The Lok Adalat was organized to reduce huge pendency in the Justice delivery system of the State and to help poor litigants as well as the advocates during this rush situation of COVID-19.

In this Lok Adalat, a total of 3,780 pre-litigation cases and 1,092 pending cases were disposed of. The settlement amount in pre-litigation cases was Rs 9,66,13,866 and in pending cases was Rs 33,04,66,869, stated a release.
