GUWAHATI: An aerial display event organized by Headquarters Eastern Air Command was scheduled on December 12 at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati to commemorate the Swarnim Vijay Varsh, which marks 50 years since the country's victory in the Indo-Pak War in 1971.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has decided to cancel the aerial display in view of the unfortunate and unexpected Mi-17V5 helicopter crash that occurred in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday, December 8.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika were among the 13 individuals aboard the helicopter who died in the tragic military chopper crash. The Indian Air Force expresses its solidarity and condolences to the families of those killed in the tragic helicopter crash in Coonoor.

The aerial display event planned by Headquarters Eastern Air Command was the important part of the 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh' celebrations.

The day was supposed to be marked by a flypast by several aircraft, as well as skydiving by the Indian Air Force's Akash Ganga team.
