Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) demands Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) regional office in Northeast

GUWAHATI: The National organizing secretary of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Hiranhya Bora has reiterated its demand for immediate creation of a regional office consisting the seven States in the region for marketing operation of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) under Assam Oil Division with its headquarters either at Guwahati or Digboi.

Addressing the media in Guwahati on Sunday, Bora said: “For the past few years the recognized union of Assam Oil Division, Digboi, is demanding a separate Northeast regional office consisting of seven States in the region on a par with other four regional offices of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., like Northern Region, Southern Region, Eastern Region & Western Region for marketing activities under IOCL. However, there are some officers/non-officer workers who hinder the cause for their vested interest. They’re also trying to wipe out the trade name of Assam Oil Division and its symbol ‘RHINO’, the pride and sentiment of the people of Assam. They’re less bothered about the Asia’s first oil integrated Refinery (Refinery & Marketing) situated in Digboi, Assam.”

Bora said: “Previously the economy of Digboi was solely dependent upon the performance of Refinery and Marketing Operations of Assam Oil Division. After bifurcation of marketing operations from AOD (Assam Oil Division), Digboi, the economy of Digboi and its surrounding areas are deteriorating day by day. Digboi and its surrounding areas solely depend on IOCL(AOD) like employment, tendering, advertisement, apprentice training in marketing operations, medical and other CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) benefits from the IOCL. After bifurcation of marketing operations of Assam Oil Division, Digboi, Assam, all the marketing related activities are transferred to the regional office, Eastern Region, Kolkata.”

“The latest example of treachery is that IOCL, Regional Office, Eastern Region, Kolkata is holding inter-region sports meet at Guwahati, schedule to be held sometime around the last week of November 2018 as informed by the Management of Indian Oil AOD State Office, Guwahati. However, it has deprived the participation of AOD cadre employees working under IOC AOD,” Bora said, and added: “We demand the IOCL management for immediate creation of a regional office consisting of seven north-eastern States for Marketing Operation of IOCL under Assam Oil Division with its headquarters either in Guwahati or Digboi.”
