Inner-Line Permit (ILP) in Assam: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) stir from November 3,

GUWAHATI: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) is going to start a series of agitation from November 3, 2018 in support of its demand for the introduction of Inner-Line Permit (ILP) in Assam. To begin with, the parishad is going to take out a torchlight rally all over the State on November 3.

Talking to this reporter, AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai said: “In post-independence immigration into Assam from other countries and States of India has been going on. So widespread is the immigration that it has brought a demographic change in the State, leading the indigenous people of the State being a minority in its own State. The local people in Assam are losing their rights over land because of such an unabated immigration.

The sons of the soil are under the threat of losing their lands and livelihood to infiltrators. As though to cap it all, the government at the Centre is out to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 so as to give Indian citizenship to Bangladeshi Hindus. As if the Centre is out to root out the Assamese from the State. In such a situation, it is the ILP that can save the State as a protective shield. We’ve have been rigid on this demand for the past four decades. On November 3, 2018 all our regional committees will take out torchlight rallies in various areas in the State. Our agitation will continue thereafter.”
