IOCL, BCPL & HPCL to set up 1026 new petrol pumps in Assam

GUWAHATI: Oil marketing PSUs namely BPCL, HPCL and IOCL have undertaken an ambitious task of setting up 1026 new petrol pumps across Assam

The scheme is part of the retail outlet (petrol pump) network expansion in tandem with the growth in demand of petrol and diesel. Assam has at present 899 petrol pumps.

Uttiya Bhattacharjya, Chief General Manager of Indian Oil (Assam Oil Division) told reporters at Azara here on Sunday that the selection process to award the contract of setting up 1026 new petrol pumps has started. He said the selection process will be completely transparent and interested parties can apply online.

“We will try to infuse new blood (young entrepreneurs) in the venture. There will be reservation for SC, ST and OBC,” Bhattacharjya said.

Bhattacharjya said expansion of retail outlet network is undertaken by Oil Marketing Companies primarily to meet the growing fuel needs and convenience of customers in emerging markets like upcoming highways, agricultural pockets and industrial hubs. The retail outlet network in rural, remote and far-flung areas is also being expanded with the intention of reaching product, predominantly HSD, ensuring quality and correct price to meet the rural agricultural demand and people living in remote areas, he said.

Bhattacharjya said availability of suitable land at the advertised location/stretch is the most important requirement. Applicants without land can also apply, however, they are expected to offer land when called for. For the first time, computerized “Draw of Lots”/”Bid opening” will be held under the aegis of an independent agency to bring in more transparency.
