ITMS Guwahati: Citizens Won't Be Charged With E-Challans For 5-6 Days

Guwahati: Giving enough time to citizens to adjust themselves to the new traffic management systems, Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh on Thursday said that they won't be charged with e-challan for five to six days.

Singh said that since violators won't be charged with challans that don't mean that one should knowingly violate the rules. Instead one should try to adapt to the new traffic rules.

''As you are all aware of the fact that in Guwahati Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) has been implemented. Until and unless citizens are not completely adjusted themselves to the new traffic systems, we will not charge them with challan for five to six days,'' he during a press conference.

He also pleaded with municipal residents to assist with traffic control and asked the people to stick to their lane while driving.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday dedicated to the people of Guwahati the phase-I of the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) under the City Police Commissionerate for traffic management and control from ITMS Control Room, Ulubari in the city.

The ITMS is a state-of-the-art citizen-friendly, integrated and responsive traffic surveillance and control mechanism, equipped with cameras at major junctions of the city. It will help in checking traffic violations and will lead to seamless traffic movement in the city.

In the first phase, ITMS will cover 20 junctions from Nepali Mandir to Khanapara. In the final phase, a total of 94 junctions will come under the ambit of ITMS.

The primary goal of ITMS is to utilize information technology to modernize key functions of traffic management, traffic control, traffic law enforcement, and traffic information dissemination in the city to build a safer city with smooth traffic flow, informed road users, and by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of road traffic infrastructure.
