ITSSA demands introducing indigenous languages as medium of instruction

GUWAHATI: The Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabha Assam, (ITSSA) has demanded that Mising, Rabha, Tiwa, Deori and Dimasa languages should be introduced as medium of instruction in vernacular medium schools till Class V.

ITSSA secretary general Kamalakanta Mushahary said, "In the meeting of the Assam Cabinet held on September 9, the Cabinet took the decision to introduce Bodo as the medium of instruction in Class XI and XII in vernacular medium schools to promote advancement and development of the Bodo language. We welcome this decision of the State Cabinet. We had hoped that the Cabinet would take the decision to introduce other indigenous languages as medium of instruction in schools. However, this did not happen. We hope that during the ongoing autum session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, the government will take this decision."

ITSSA has demanded that Mising, Rabha, Tiwa, Deori and Dimasa languages should be introduced as medium of instruction in vernacular medium schools till Class V, Karbi language should be introduced as medium of instruction till Class VIII and Garo should be introduced as the medium of instruction till Class XII, as per the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
