According to a press release, “In light of the tragic road accident in Jalukbari that claimed the lives of seven Assam Engineering College students, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today requested that the Education Department establish a high level inquiry committee to investigate the events that led to the accident and the students' untimely deaths.

It should be emphasised that the Principal AEC, Jalukbari, and the Superintendent of the dormitory where the unfortunate students were housed would be requested to take leave until the investigation is finished and the report is reviewed by the government.”

It further stated that, “Further, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma directed the Education Department to form a new committee to tighten discipline, rules, and regulations in educational institution dormitories in order to prevent a repetition of any occurrence that could endanger the lives of the student community. The committee will also look into the tight enforcement of hostel entry and exit times, the complete prohibition of alcohol and other drugs on hostel campuses and inside of hostels, and the ban on staying outside of hostels for a lengthy period of time. The group will also make recommendations for how to foster a positive sense of community within the hostels.”

Ranoj Pegu, the Assam state minister of education, visited the Assam Engineering College (AEC) and examined the facility's security measures. In order to prevent similar occurrences from happening again in the future, he also met with a number of institution officials. Both the dormitory wardens and the institution's principal attended this conference.
