GUWAHATI: Assam Accord Clause IV Implementation: The Janagostiyo Samanya Parishad (JSP) has appealed to Assam Accord Implementation Minister Atul Bora for the implementation of Clause VI of the Assam Accord.

The Parishad has also demanded setting up an Upper House in the State with representatives of ethnic groups by submitting a memorandum to the Minster. The memorandum underlined that there are more than 100 ethnic groups in the State.

"As it is not possible to have a representative in the Assam Assembly for every ethnic group, an Upper House should be established under Clause VI of the Assam Accord. There are 126 Lok Sabha Constituencies (LACs) of Assam Assembly out of which only 24 are reserved. The rest of the 102 LACs should be reserved for the ethnic groups," the memorandum stated.

It is to be mentioned that the memorandum was submitted by the JSP chief convener Mominul Aowal. While submitting the memorandum, on behalf of the organization, he also highlighted the problems faced by the minority communities of the State — Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs.
