Jokes Galore on ‘No Parking’ at Dharapur

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The ‘No Parking’ display erected for public notice at Dharapur Chariali has since long been a source of great fun and satire in the locality. The reason is, the inscription of the display visibly reads, “No Parking within a radius of 50 meter of the banner. Violation of (u/s 179 (I) MV Act) which will attract a fine of Rs 500 – Guwahati Traffic Police.”

Ironically, the residents and the visitors at Dharapur Chariali have no time to pay attention to the display. Hence, right beneath the display, parking of commercial passenger vehicles like Magic, Tempo, E-Rickshaw and Auto Rickshaw is a routine job.

Moreover, since the vicinity of Dharapur Chariali is surrounded by a number of institutions like the bank, college, schools besides the daily market, students, employees and the commoners visiting the marketplaces park their four-wheelers as well as two-wheelers in and around the display which causes traffic congestion on a daily basis. However, the police and the traffic personnel on duty have no time to pay attention to the chaos neither do they realize the denotation of the display. Under this given situation, people glaring at the display raise the question as to whose interest the display was made, for the public or for the police itself?
