Judicial probe gives clean chit to alleged anomalies in APDCL

GUWAHATI: The judicial inquiry has given clean its chit to the alleged anomalies in the examinations in the APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) for the recruitment of around 2,000 posts in various cadres.

The examinations were held in April 2019 for the filling up of 60 posts of assistant account officers, 1,000 post of officer-cum-filed assistants, 872 posts of assistants and 25 posts of drivers.

The main allegation in holding the examinations was the leakage of the OMR (Optical Mark Reading) sheets. Even a few candidates did move the Gauhati High Court alleging large-scale anomalies in holding the examinations.

The High Court had constituted a one-man committee with retired judge Amina Hazarika to inquiry into the allegations. In her report submitted to the government on January 5, 2021, the Committee said, "There has been no documentary evidence to prove that there were large-scale anomalies in the examinations. The examinations were fair, transparent and non-arbitrary."

The retired judge recommended that "an independent evaluation committee should be set up by taking a member each from the Department of Home, the Police, the Department of Law and the administration to evaluate the answer scripts to declare the results".

A section of candidates on the other hand demand that the independent evaluation committee should be constituted and declare the results as soon as possible.
