STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: A rot right on the premises of Kamakhya Mandir – a number of children who roam about with begging bowls in their hands – has drawn the attention of those at the helm of affairs, belated although.

Presided over by ADC (Additional Deputy Commissioner) Pallabi Kachari, a meeting of the Task Force of Kamrup (M) brainstormed on Thursday to find a way out to rescue such children from the plight they have been undergoing for years and on. The thrust of the meeting is to find a way out to bring such children to the classroom so as to make them responsible citizens.

Kamrup (M) District Child Protection Officer Rajlakshmi Deori has appealed to the Kamakhya Devalaya Committee to keep a close watch on the matter and see that children aren't used for begging on the temple premises. ACP Rosy Talukdar, office-bearers of NGOs like Gold, Priyabondhu, Sundaram etc were also present at the meeting.
