Kamrup (M) District administration moves homeless to a night shelter

GUWAHATI: Ahead of the complete lockdown in the State, the Kamrup (M) District Administration picked up the homeless people from the city streets and moved them to a night shelter home under the Social Welfare Department, here on Tuesday.

This special initiative has been taken by the Social Welfare Department and the administration as per the order issued by District Commissioner. The initiative is a part of preventive measures taken by the government to tackle the spread of COVID-19.

A total of five NGOs in association with the Social Welfare Department moved hundreds of homeless people from different parts of the city including Bharalumukh and Sukreswar Temple, to the night shelter home.

One of the volunteers of an NGO said that the beggars, as well as the homeless people, will be kept in the Night shelter home and the Social Welfare Department will provide food and clothes for them.
