KRNC Condemns Government Over CAB And Unfulfilled ST Demand

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Koch Rajbongshi National Convention (KRNC) criticized both the Central and State Governments for their inaction against the demand for ST status for the community while also raging against the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).

General secretary of the Convention, Biswajit Rai, while addressing the media on Thursday, said, “We thoroughly condemn the Cabinet’s decision to implement the CAB. The historical Kamatapur State formed on the basis of the merger agreement on August 28, 1949, is now plagued with infiltrators. This has put the very existence of the Koch Rajbongshi community at stake. This is why implementing the CAB will mean handing over the Kamatapur State to Bangladeshi infiltrators.”

“If the Bill is passed, it will also threaten the existence of Assam and the Assamese. So, we have decided that we will actively protest against it and urge every person of the State to stand united in the demonstration. Our demonstration against the CAB will start from Friday and will not cease till the Bill is scrapped,” said Rai.

The Convention further stated that the Central Government has cheated them of their right to be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and granted ST (P) status as they fulfil the essential criteria required for it.
